About Me

Like most kids, I was obsesed with space from an early age. Coming into uni I’ve been lucky to study what fascinated me as a child (and continues to do so!)

Outside of astronomy, I have many interests. Let me tell you. bit about myself :))

I like learning languages. I speak 3 (Hindi, Punjabi, English - 4 if you count Urdu but its a bit of a cheat). Am currently learning Norwegian and Mandarin. And in the future I’d really like to learn Moroccan Arabic and Thai. I can also hold a very basic conversation in Korean. I am trying to practice my BSL which is similar to ISL (indian Sign Language) that I learnt in high school - but this has proven to be more confusing than helpful!

I am currently learning the Sitar which is an Indian classical instrument, which follows from my traiining in Kathak, a form of North Indian classical dance. North India is where I am from. Someday I’d like to get good enough and perform on stage!

I love reading and I have a LOT of favourite books, but ones I can list off the top of my head are

  • I, Who Have Never Known Men

  • A Thousand Splendid Suns

  • Emma

  • Pride and Prejudice

  • Butter

  • Pachinko

  • God of Small Things

  • The Trial

  • Kite Runner

  • Persepolis

I also like watching films but I prefer books, though I enjoy everything ever put out by Studio Ghibli - which motivated me to take a semester of Japanese in college!! and also anything by Joe Wright (I have a DVD of P&P 2005. I don’t have a DVD player).
